After his injury, Shakib Al Hasan was named as the new captain. But then Mashrafe again got his captaincy role back in 2014 and under him the team spent a year that the cricket world will remember for a long time.
In 2015, Bangladesh qualified in the quarter final of the World Cup for the first time and that was not the end. The Tigers defeated India, Pakistan and South Africa in back to back ODI series at home under Mashrafe.
Apart from that, Bangladesh also played in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy for the first time. Mashrafe is undoubtedly known as the best captain of Bangladesh and after the win against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, it has been proven on paper too.
Mashrafe has surpassed former captain Habibul Bashar with most ODI wins as captain. After beating Sri Lanka he equaled Bashar’s record of 29 wins and after the win today, Mashrafe has now 30 wins as captain and he is now officially recognized as Bangladesh’s most successful ODI skipper.
Mashrafe has led the side in 53 ODIs. He has won 30 matches, lost 20 and two matches were abandoned. On the other hand, Bashar has led the side in 69 matches and he has 29 wins under his belt while he lost 40 matches.
Under the captaincy of Mashrafe, the fans of Bangladesh can surely dare to dream big in the upcoming years including the 2019 World Cup.
