The legendary batsman who retired from International cricket back in 2012 has more than 13000 runs in both Tests and ODIs. Ponting played for Mumbai Indians in IPL and opened with another legend Sachin Tendulkar which was one of the iconic moment of the tournament.
He was also named as the captain but opted to resign mid-way into the tournament due to his poor performance with the bat. Rohit Sharma took over as the captain of the side and piloted the franchise to a title triumph. Mumbai Indians then decided to retain Ponting in an advisory capacity for the following season.
He then coached Mumbai Indians to their second IPL title in 2015, but decided to not continue in that position after his two-year contract expired in 2016. He was also appointed as the assistant coach of Australia for the T20I series versus Sri Lanka last year.
On the other hand, Delhi Daredevils is a team who failed to win any of the season yet and were one of the most inconsistent team combining all the editions. Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was the mentor of the Daredevils for two seasons but he had to step down after that due to BCCI’s conflict of interest clause. Now, the new coach Ponting will be looking to turn things around for the Delhi Daredevils.
