After the retirement of two legends Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka cricket looks to go no where and the year 2017 has certainly become a year to forget. They started with three straight defeats and ended the year with five losses in a row against India.
In the middle of the year, their situation was even worse. Between July and September, they lost 9 matches and in the month of October, they lost 8 matches in a month. After losing so many matches, the team has even made a record of losing most matches in a year.
In the year 2017, Sri Lanka played 57 matches and lost 40 which is now the most in International cricket. It has become a serious concern for the team and due to lack of performance as an unit, it’s looking like this kind of performance can continue in the new year too.
Teams with most defeats in a year:
Sri Lanka: Year 2017 | Played 57 | Lost 40
Zimbabwe: Year 2015 | Played 42 | Lost 32
Zimbabwe: Year 2001 | Played 48 | Lost 31
Bangladesh: Year 2008 | Played 37 | Lost 31
