Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera has been named Man of the Series in the Rocket tri-nation ODI series. The all-rounder has played a major role in taking the Lankans to the Final.
Perera has had impact in all of the matches before Sri Lanka reached Final. He was good with the ball in all the matches. In fact, he is the leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets at a decent economy rate of 4.85.
With the bat in hand, Perera scored 134 runs at a massive strike rate of 154.02 including one fifty. He scored a quickfire 64 in Sri Lanka’s first match against Zimbabwe, which the lost by 12 runs.
Perera opened Sri Lanka’s gate with 4/33 and 39* against Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the tri-series. It was the first match Sri Lanka won in the series. He had contributions in the earlier two matches they lost. He took two wickets against Bangladesh in the sixth game, which they won by 10 wickets after bowling the Tigers out for 82.
Although Perera failed in the Final game. He scored only two runs and went wicketless in the match which Sri Lanka won by 79 runs. But still he managed to beat strong Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal.
Shakib scored 163 runs at an average of 40.75 with two half-centuries. Not only that he scalped nine wickets at an economy rate of 4.66 including three three-fors. He also won two Man of the Match awards.
Tamim had a great start to the tri-series with scores of 84*, 84 and 76 but failed in the sixth ODI and Final. He aggregated 252 runs at 63.
