“I hope we will finalize tri-series squad on January 7,” he said.
Currently 32 members of preliminary squad are having camp under technical director Khaled Mahmud Sujon. Nannu has informed that the board would like rest of the players to take part in BCL, which is starting from January 9.
“There are reasons (for announcing squad eight days before). Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) will start from January 9. If we pick 14 players before that, the rest of the guys will be able to play in BCL,” he explained.
Ariful Haque, Abu Jayed Rahi, Mahedi Hasan had shown impressive performances in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 2017. They have been included in the preliminary squad but chief selector’s words will give less possibilities for them to be picked in ODIs.
“There are some who performed in BPL, but that’s only for 20-over format, which not only differs in length with 50 overs cricket, but also in nature of pace,” said Nannu.
Nannu has also said that there won’t be any experiment in squad for Tests against Sri Lanka but T20I squad could see changes.
“We will not many any experiment with our Test team. Only the tested and established players will be there. But changes may come in T20 format,” he added.
The tri-nation series will kick off with the first match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
