Bangladesh’s one of senior cricketers Tamim Iqbal and interim coach Richard Halsall declared the Tigers as favourites in the tri-series. Shakib said the same too even though he thinks the opponents know Bangladesh well.
“We believe that we have a very good chance but the two opponents are good. They know well about our players and conditions. It will be a tough competition. But as we have transformed into a good team, so we have more chances of doing well,” said Shakib at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
Bangladesh’s head coach post is left empty after Chandika Hathurusingha’s resignation. Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed assistant coach Halsall as interim coach. Board president Nazmul Hassan Papon also said that Test and T20I skipper Shakib and ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will act as coaches too.
The number one all-rounder has informed that they are ready for the new job.
“We all have separate roles to play and everyone is aware of each others’ role. Everyone will try to carry out their roles. We will definitely get success if we do that.
“But as we are captain and vice-captain, usually there is more responsibility on us (me and Mashrafe). We are ready for that,” he added.
