Rubel became the fifth Bangladeshi and the third-fastest Bangladeshi bowler to take 100 ODI wickets in the first ODI of the Rocket tri-series against Zimbabwe. He required two wickets in that match. Both his wickets came in the death.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, Rubel told that he was happy with what he has been doing till now.
“Of course I feel like bowling with the new ball. I worked a lot on bowling with the new ball. When the situation dictates – like when a bowler is charged by a batsman [early] – I come on to bowl, and that has happened in many matches, and Alhamdulillah, I have done well. So it is according to the situation – the captain can use me whenever and wherever I am needed,” he said.
The speedster has now exactly 100 wickets in 81 ODIs. He has no such target. But he would be happy if he can finish up with 250 or 300 wickets. Currently Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan and Abdur Razzak have 200 or more wickets in ODIs. Rubel is Bangladesh’s fifth-highest wicket taker.
“I have played 100 matches in eight, nine years – I was injured for a year in that time, it took a lot of time to get to that mark [100 wickets]. In our condition pace bowlers cannot play continuously. There is no target as such – it would be nice if I can end on 200, 250, 300 wickets.”
