Tamim Iqbal’s Peshawar Zalmi lost by seven wickets to PSL debutant Multan Sultans in the opening game in Dubai yesterday. Tamim made only 11 runs. Sabbir Rahman didn’t feature in the playing XI. Multan’s Kumar Sangakkara guided them to victory in their first game.
Quetta Gladiators were the runners-up of last edition. They will take on Karachi Kings in the second match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. However, Mahmudullah’s inclusion to the XI is not certain though as the Gladiators have the likes of Shane Watson, Kevin Pietersen and Jofra Archer.
The match will begin at 3:30 pm local time which is 5:30 in Bangladesh Standard Time. Gladiators have never lost to Kings in PSL (four matches).
Mustafizur Rahman’s star-studded Lahore Qalandars will take on Multan Sultans in the second game of the day at 8:00 pm (10:00 pm BST). Qalandars will be led by Brendon McCullum. Although Chris Lynn is ruled out, there are Sunil Narine, Mitchell McClenaghan and the Fizz himself.
Mahmudullah, Mustafizur, Sabbir and Tamim are the four Bangladeshis taking part in this year’s PSL. They all are given NOCs (No Objection Certificate) till 4th March as they have to join Bangladesh camp in Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was picked by Peshawar Zalmi but ruled out with finger injury. He was replaced by Sabbir.
Mahmudullah played for Quetta Gladiators last season and picked seven wickets in six matches. His highest score with the bat was 37. This will be Mustafizur’s and Sabbir’s first PSL event. Tamim (also 2016) and Shakib played for Peshawar Zalmi in 2017.
