Cricket Australia clarified Pakistan’s top position in the Twenty20 world rankings, pushing aside the Aussies despite their wins in the Trans – Tasman tri-series featuring Australia, New Zealand and England.
The statement later in Thursday said the ‘clerical error’ by the International Cricket Council revealed the calculation being wrong which meant Pakistan retain the number one spot.
Pakistan have 125.84 points atop Australia who have 125.65 points, a sum of 0.19 behind Pakistan.
Since the advent of T20 cricket in international schedules in 2011, Australia are yet to gain the top spot. They are currently in the third position in Test ranking and ranked fifth in limited over cricket.
Australia were unbeaten in the tri-series with a 19 run win over New Zealand in Auckland on Wednesday.
