After keeping the number all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for seven years in the team, two time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders released him before the upcoming IPL. The team have made many changes to their team with one noticeable the most, skipper Gautam Gambhir wasn’t retained and he will play for the Delhi Daredevils.
After the end of the auction, there was a expected question in everyone’s mind that who will lead KKR in 2018’s IPL. The curiosity is finally over. Dinesh Karthik has been appointed the new captain of KKR.
The 32-year-old, who was picked up by Knight Riders for INR 7.4 Crore in this year’s mega auction. Robin Uthappa, who was also among the top contenders for the job, has been named as the vice-captain.
Karthik after becoming the captain, said:
“It is an honour to represent Kolkata Knight Riders, one of the most successful franchises in the IPL and I look forward to this new challenge. I am excited about the squad that has been assembled, which has a great combination of experience and youth. I will do my best to represent brand KKR and the millions of KKR fans.”
The vice-captain Robin Uthappa said:
“I’m sure all of Kolkata will be right behind DK, as will I and as will the rest of the team. I’m going to be available to DK anytime he needs me, always ready to share my inputs. DK and I have known each other since our Under-17 days, so looking forward to working with him.”
Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL campaign will start on 8th April when they will face Royal Challengers Banglaore who is yet to win the IPL trophy.
