Afghanistan are having quite a seesaw ride in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers and somehow they are keeping themselves alive to earn a spot in the World Cup.
After bowling out United Arab Emirates for 177, it looked like Afghanistan will chase down the score easily, but there was a lot of twist in the tale. Afghanistan were tottering at 54 for 5 at one stage but one partnership completely took the game away from UAE.
UAE, who smelt blood after picking up five wickets in the beginning were kept at bay by a brilliant counter-attacking unbeaten stand of 124 off 111 balls between opener Gulbadin Naib and Najibullah Zadran. Both batsmen made fifties and ensured the target was reached with still 15.3 overs remaining.
Earlier, the magician leg spinner Rashid Khan picked up yet another fifer which helped Afghanistan to bowl Afghanistan out before they cross the 200-mark. Despite of the collapse, it was all too easy for Afghanistan to chase the total in the end.
With this win, Afghanistan stayed alive in the competition and will next play Ireland in their last game onMarch 23. Their hopes rest in their hands as well as depending on other calculations too.
