Throughout the week, it has been proved that cricket is not just a game to everyone, its an emotion. The players are not just the players, they are also the heroes for many people around the world. Not only the former Australian captain Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft and coach Darrren Lehmann cried, with them the whole cricket world cried.
A Channel Nine presenter named Deborah Knight posted a picture on her instagram of Steve Smith crying with the caption: “Just spent 20 minutes consoling my crying 9 year old who is a major Steve Smith fan after he watched the press conference. Encouraging him and all kids to write Steve a letter telling him how much you love and admire him.”
After this post who had have expected that Smith himself will see this post and sent Deborah a private message asking her to apologise to her son on the cricketer’s behalf. Smith said: “Could you please apologise personally to your son for me. Sorry that I made him upset also.”
In reply, Deborah thanked Smith and also posted the screenshot of the conversation to show it to the world. She said in her next post: “Surprised and humbled that Steve Smith has taken time to contact my son directly.”
In the press conference on Thursday, Smith broke down into tears when he said his parents are suffering because of him and felt devastated for the pain that he have brought to Australia and the fans and the public.
