Starc was ruled out of the IPL 2018 with injury on his right shin. He was bought by KKR for INR 9.40 crore. This is the third consecutive the Australian paceman will miss an IPL season. He missed 2016 ans 2017 editions for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Curran went unsold at the auction at a base price of INR 1 crore (USD 1,56,000 approx). The Knight Riders have picked him for INR 1.62 crore (USD 2,53,000 approx).
“I’m thrilled and excited to be joining Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL. I know from chatting to other players I can learn a lot from being in that environment, skills that I hope will benefit Surrey and my chances of representing England again this year and if selected, for next year’s World Cup,” said Curran, one of England’s young guns who has shown potentials.
Curran is the eleventh player to be picked in this year’s IPL. Just a two days ago, Alex Hales was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad to replace David Warner.
Kolkata will play their first match of the season against RCB on April 8 at Eden Gardens. Curran is expected to join the team by that time.
