Nidahas Trophy profited Rs 94 crore for SLC

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) earned Rs 94 crore in profit from the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy, confirmed the board president, Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala in the annual post-Avurudu speech. Nidahas Trophy profited Rs 94 crore for SLC

“This is the first time Sri Lanka was ever involved in roping in high profile commercial stakeholders through the Nidahas Trophy that required enormous ground work. This was meticulously done. A profit of RS. 900 million had been reaped from a total revenue of Rs. 1.3 billion. Just one over in a match had been marketed for US $27, 000,” Sumathipala was quoted as saying in srilankacricket.lk website.

Meanwhile, the SLC is going to arrange a domestic T20 cricket league, the Lankan Premier League(LPL) later this year. Mr. Sumathipala also believes success in the Nidahas Trophy was a great stepping stone ahead of the LPL and he is confident of making the upcoming tournament a commercial success.

“Enormous as the task is, we will definitely see that the LPL takes off this year in implementing the IPL concept that has caught on in countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa. Sri Lanka had to get moving with it and put the framework in place for it to catch on,” he added.

To be noted, India clinched the Nidahas Trophy title this year by beating Bangladesh in a terrific final. Earlier, the hosts Sri Lanka saw a first round exit after losing their both matches against Bangladesh.
