Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive magical sixes in the last over of the innings to lead the Caribbean team into their second T20 world title. West Indies needed 19 runs in the last six balls and Brathwaite picked up 24 runs in the first four balls of Ben Stokes.
Marlon Samuels carried the bat through the innings and was unbeaten at 85 runs in 66 balls.
England throttled some initial breakthroughs counting three wickets of West Indies within 11 runs on the board. Chris Gayle failed to flourish in the big clash of the mega event; lost his wicket after scoring a single shot of boundary.
English skipper’s cunning plan of bringing Joe Root early to bowl was effective as he picked up two wickets including that of Gayle. Johnson Charles also got out adding single run on the board and the great shock came on view when Lendl Simmons, the match winner batsman of the semi – final was trapped in front leg off the bowling of Willey before opening up his innings.
