Chris Gayle has marked his start of Indian Premier League with a new team in a scintillating way. The left-handed Jamaican hard-hitting opener brought up the first century of this year’s IPL.
Gayle smacked 63-ball 104* runs including 11 sixes and just one four against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali last night. It was his sixth IPL century and 21st in all T20s. The next to his tally is just 7. It was the 16th time Gayle hit ten or more sixes in an innings.
Kings XI Punjab won the game by 15 runs following Gayle show. After the match, player of the match said that Virender Sehwag saved IPL by picking him.
“I think Virender Sehwag saved the IPL by picking me (in the January auctions). Everyone says I have a lot to prove. I am just here to put some respect on my name,” said Gayle with a smile.
Sehwag then tweeted that he agreed to Gayle’s statement. In reply, Gayle tweeted “Yes’.

Gayle was picked for INR 2 crore on third call after he went unsold on previous two occasions. He blasted for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011-17 including five hundreds which made him the top T20 batsman of all time.
The West Indian has been in good form recently. He scored a hundred in ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Before that, he scored two hundreds for Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League 2017 including the 146* against Dhaka Dynamites in the Final that comprised of record 18 sixes.
