Powered by a belligerent hundred from Chris Gayle, Kings XI Punjab handed Sunrisers Hyderabad their first defeat in the 2018 Indian Premier League. He was mysteriously unsold in the first day of the IPL auction despite being marquee listed and was seated in the first two matches of IPL – the incident duo proved sound enough to ignite the Caribbean blaze with rage.
Followed by a 63 run knock in his opening match, Gayle was unbeaten scoring 104 runs last night with 11 sixes on the card.
Gayle said, “Not audacity, but actually I missed a century in the last game. I want to go there, express myself to give the team a good start and to build on that. We have a great batting unit. Rahul has been batted well, Karun and Mayank are doing well in the middle as well.”
“So overall, it’s good and eventually I got a century today which is very pleasing to do but at the same time it’s a good wicket to bat on. When you start well, you want to keep the momentum,” Gayle said.
“Yes, I did some running today. It’s a big field. Actually everything was calculated and I’m very happy to get the hundred today,” the Caribbean giant said.
About hitting Rashid Khan, Gayle said, “I know he was the key bowler, he has been bowling phenomenal, not only in this tournament but also throughout his career. But I want to let him know, I had no fear, the universe boss here.”
