Watch: Shreyas’s 93 in 40 balls with 10 sixes

Delhi Daredevils made a satisfactory turn around in what was their fairly last chance to hit back and stay alive in the competition, registered their second win in the league on contrary to five losses.

Shreyas Iyer, the newly crowned captain of Delhi Daredevils after Gautam Gambhir’s abrupt decision of step down, took his in a new height, leading from the front, snatched a 55 run win against Kolkata Knight Riders in front of home crowd at Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

Smacking a belligerent 93 runs, unbeaten at the end, Iyer’s innings took the Daredevils to mount 219 runs, a total that proved fairly unreachable for Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the beginning of the show when Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first, India’s young generation batting representatives Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer throttled the opposition’s decision with big shows of power hitting.

Daredevils lost a few wickets on their way to score 219, Munro, in the opening an 18 ball 33 with 4 fours and 2 sixes left out Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer to deliver a 68 run second wicket partnership.

Shaw was knocked out by Chawla after a 44 ball knock of 62 runs that included 7 fours and 2 sixes, followed by the departure of Rishabh Pant in a golden duck.

Therefore, Kolkata Knight Riders could incur no further damage in the Daredevils’ innings – Iyer ended scoring an unbeaten knock of 93 in 40 balls. His innings bamboozled with 10 beautifully curved sixes.

Delhi Daredevils’ bowlers equally curved success later on like their batsmen.

Daredevils’ Aussie and Kiwi recruit duo Trent Boult and Glenn Maxwell ripped through Kolkata Knight Riders’ batting line up from the beginning of the innings. Maxwell uprooted just in the second over followed by some Boult harm.

In the first and last delivery of the third over, Boult took the wickets of Sunil Narine and Robin Uthappa, broke the down Kolkata Knight Riders top order.

With no more significant partnerships to proceed later on, Shubman Gill and Andre Russell tried to revive some of the pride but not enough to overcome an enormous target like 219.

The highest 44 runs in the KKR innings was done by Andre Russell meanwhile Shubman Gill added 37 runs.

For the Daredevils, Glenn Maxwell, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan and Amit Mishra all claimed 2 wickets each apart from one run out jointly done by Iyer, Pant.

Kolkata Knight Riders still among the top four in the point table with three wins in seven matches. Delhi Daredevils were able to pick themselves up from the below most position.

Mumbai Indians are languishing in the bottom of the table, they managed just a single win in six matches.
