In the match number 50 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians won the do or die clash against Kings XI Punjab and kept their chances alive to qualify in the play-offs.
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. The MI openers had a decent start but it didn’t continued for long as Evin Lewis departed for 9. After his departure, MI kept losing wickets and found themselves in trouble.
But Kieron Pollard, who had a terrible season so far has finally proved himself with the ball. The Caribbean allrounder’s 50 off just 23 balls took MI to a flying score of 186 runs in their 20 overs. Pollard’s innings includes 5 fours and 3 massive sixes.
In reply, Chris Gayle departed early but in form Lokesh Rahul kept his amazing form going . Aaron Finch (46) joined the party and kept the run rate ticking. But after his departed, it was all Rahul show while on the other hand wickets were tumbling at the other hand.
When Rahul alone was taking away the game from MI’s hand, Bumrah brought the crucial breakthrough and changed the momentum of the game. Rahul departed for 94 and Bumrah’s 3 for 15 sealed a massive win for the defending champions.
With this win, MI keep their hopes all alive for a place in the play-offs while Kings XI Punjab somehow still hanging in after the defeat.
