Smith to play in Global T20 Canada league

Steve Smith has been named as one of the marquee players in the proposed Global T20 Canada league. Cricket Canada aims to start a T20 league with six teams that’ll play 22 matches in a month-long tournament.

Shahid Afridi, David Miller, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, Darren Sammy and Lasith Malinga are the other marquee players.

Smith was suspended by Cricket Australia for a year after his involvement in the ball-tampering saga in the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. If the tournament goes ahead as scheduled, which is likely to take place from June 25 to July 28, it could well be the first time Smith takes the field after being handed the suspension.

CA had already made it clear that the banned troika of Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will be allowed to play grade cricket.

While Bancroft will feature in Western Australia’s Premier Cricket league, Warner will play for Randwick Petersham, his club in Sydney.
