Sunrisers Hyderabad have made themselves into their second final of Indian Premier League after a thrilling 13-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Knight Riders elected to field first in the knock-out game. Sunrisers made three changes to their playing XI including the debut of left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed.
Wriddhiman Saha and Shikhar Dhawan made a commanding start for SRH. They put on 56 runs. Kuldeep Yadav brought Kolkata in the game with the crucial wickets of Dhawan and skipper Kane Williamson in the eighth over.
Dhawan made a brisk 24-ball 34 with 4 fours and 1 six. Shakib Al Hasan came in and anchored the innings. Saha was then stumped for 35 off Piyush Chawla.
Shakib was set for a big score in the all important match and just at that moment an unfortunate run out called his end. Deepak Hooda struck very hard straight which ended up in dismissing Shakib as Kuldeep got his fingers on the ball.
The all-rounder departed scoring 28 off 24 balls hitting 4 boundaries. Carlos Brathwaite could not go hard in this match. It was Rashid Khan who gave a blistering finish to Hyderabad’s innings.
He smashed 2 fours and 4 sixes in his 10-ball unbeaten 34 runs. SRH posted 174/7 on board.
Shakib struck in his second over with the wicket of KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik. Rashid dismissed Lynn to get SRH back on track. Lynn left scoring 48 runs off 31 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Andre Russell was sent back by Rashid, who was his third wicket. KKR collapsed to 1/87 to 6/118. Shubman Gill still kept his team’s hopes alive but all were done as he was dismissed by Brathwaite in the last over for 30.
The Sunrisers restricted KKR to 161/9 to seal a 13-run win to go through to the Final against Chennai Super Kings on May 27.
Rashid was the star with the ball as well with his three wickets for 19 runs. Shakib was cheap for his 1/16 in three overs.
