Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. This is the first tour of South Africa after the retirement of Morne Morkel and AB de Villiers. Dale Steyn, who suffered an injury during the Test series against India, has been included in the squad.
The South African pacer Dale Steyn is currently playing in the ongoing County Championship for Hampshire and also proved his match fitness. South Africa will travel to Sri Lanka without their best batsman, AB de Villiers who can tackle the spin bowlers very well.
In order to tackle the spin deliveries, Heinrich Klaasen, who troubled the Indian spinners in the ODIs, has been added to the squad. The inexperienced Sri Lankan team will look to seal the Test series against South Africa.
Faf du Plessis and Keshav Maharaj will be leading the side and spin department respectively. Temba Bavuma or Theunis de Bruyn are the likeliest candidates to replace AB de Villiers in the squad.
Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar will open the innings for South Africa in Tests. The CSA included Shaun von Berg to strengthen the spin department. The first Test will be played between two nations from July 12 in Galle.
