Sri Lanka batsman Angelo Mathews and fast bowler Lahiru Gamage have been ruled out of Windies tour for the next two Tests. Danushka Gunathilaka and Dasun Shanaka will leave for the Caribbean on Wednesday.
Mathews has been missing international matches these days with injuries. This time it’s not the injury but for personal reasons as the former skipper has left for home. Gamage sustained a finger injury during the last day of the first Test in Trinidad.
Sri Lanka were heavily defeated by 226 runs in the first Test in Port of Spain. Mathews scored 11 and 31 in the match. Gamage went wicketless in the Test but played a valiant knock of 3 off 49 with the bat in the second innings in quest to save the Test match. He was hit on the finger by Shannon Gabriel, who was fiery with the ball.
Sri Lanka went to the Caribbean with 17 players under hear coach Chandika Hathurusingha. Either Dhananjaya de Silva or Mahela Udawatte could replace Mathews while Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando are in the squad as cover for the injured seamer.
Windies and Sri Lanka will play the second Test from June 14. The match will be held at St. Lucia’s Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet. The third and final Test in Bridgetown, Barbados will be the first D/N Test in the Caribbean.
