The Afghan sensation keeps on getting better with each passing game. Afghanistan beat Bangladesh in the first game of the three-match T20I series on June 3. Rashid Khan destroyed opponent line-up by picking 3 wickets for just 13 runs from his three overs.
Rashid Khan became the fastest player to pick 50 wickets in T20I in terms of time taken. He achieved the milestone in two years and 220 days since his debut. The leg-spinner also became the second fastest to achieve the feat in terms of matches played.
The leg-spinner made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe on October 26, 2015. He took just 31 games to bag 50 wickets in T20 International. The former Sri Lankan bowler Ajantha Mendis, who took just 26 games to achieve this feat, leads this chart. Rashid is joint-second along with Imran Tahir.
“There was no secret, I just kept everything simple, did everything I’ve been doing in the last 2-3 months. I had no specific plans when I came on after 10 overs. Just bowl a little back of a length, not too full for the batsman to hit,” Rashid Khan said during the post presentation.
“It was a good surface, ball was gripping. Little bit of dew in the end, but with that dew it was gripping better. We just played IPL and it’s the biggest stage and the biggest platform, so the confidence will help you in these games. It was a team effort,” he added.
The Afghanistan leg-spinner has been in tremendous form. Earlier in this year, he became the fastest player to pick 100 wickets in ODI. Rashid Khan took just 44 games to complete 100 wickets in ODI, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s record of 52 games.
