Bangladesh’s top first-class league National Cricket.League (NCL) might take place from September 25 if franchise-based longer version league Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) doesn’t take place which was supposed to start from the 20th of next month. BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan has informed the news.
The national team players were supposed to play their first game in BCL. But Afghanistan are coming to the country for a 3-match ODI series. So the players who will be in the final squad, will not be able to participate this BCL as England series will start from October 7. So, the franchises are not interested to leave their star cricketers.
Recently South Zone (owned by Prime Bank), have withdrawn their name from the upcoming BCL. Two of the reasons were they won’t get best players due to International matches. They are not happy to play two BCLs in a year. Last season’s BCL was played earlier this year.
Bangladesh Cricket Board operations committee chairman Akram Khan has told that it’s hard to organise BCL at this moment. He told the bdnews24.com, “We want to continue with our calendar. But there are some problems. Afghanistan series is a good news for us. But it has created a trouble for BCL. The franchises cost a lot to play the tournament. So, they will want to have players from national team. At this moment, it’s tough to organise BCL.”
As there is a concern of BCL taking place, Akram looks for another chance to let the players play first-class games. NCL’s next season might take place from September 25.
“But we are not resting anymore. We will start National League if BCL doesn’t kick off. The possible date for the league to start is September 25,” he said.
Akram Khan wants to get back Prime Bank to BCL for the next season. He added, “Prime Bank are an important part of our country’s cricket and are a well-known institution. We want them to stay with us. We are in talks. I hope the problem will be solved.”
National Cricket League contains 8 teams in it. The league is being played for over a decade. Bangladesh Cricket League might start it’s new season from next year as the Tigers have a busy cricket schedule.
