South Africa veteran Hashim Amla has scored his 27th century in Test cricket against Bangladesh as he equals record with former captain Graeme Smith with Jacques Kallis standing at the top of the list.
Amla started the second day of the Potchefstroom Test at 68. He raced to a record 27th ton in 143 balls. He made 137 runs off 200 deliveries hitting 17 fours and a six.
He was involved in a 215-run partnership with Dean Elgar for the second-wicket. The 34-year-old was dismissed by Shafiul Islam just after the lunch which was the 70000th wicket in Test cricket.
Former Protea great Smith also had 27 centuries in 116 Tests for his country. One of the greatest all-rounders in the history, Jacques Kallis holds the record for most hundreds scored for South Africa in Tests. He had scored 45 tons in 165 matches for his country.
Overall, Amla stands 16th with Smith and former Australian great Allan Border in the list of most centuries in Test cricket.
