Youth Tigers start off with big win

Bangladesh U19 have started the five-match Youth ODI series against Afghanistan U19 with a big 145-run victory in the first match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ আফগানিস্তানের বিপক্ষে বড় জয় পেল বাংলাদেশ]

Bangladesh youths were put into bat. Runs were coming quickly for the hosts but they lost their fourth wicket for 84 in 14.2 overs. Top three batsmen Saif Hassan (20), Pinak Ghosh (23) and Afif Hossain Dhurbo (19) failed to make a big score.

Towhid Hridoy and Mahidul Islam Ankon put on 75-run stand for the fifth wicket. Towhid scored a steady 85-ball 52 with four fours. Mahidul was much slower for his 84-ball 35.

Debutant Kazi Anik’s 27 off 24 with two sixes helped the youth Tigers post 222/9. For Afghan youths, Haseeb scalped four wickets for 22 runs in ten overs.

In reply, Afghanistan U19 were kept under pressure. They collapsed from 1/34 to 10/77. Only two men- Tariq Stanikzai (16) and Nisar Wahdat (10) reached double figures.

The visitors were bowled out with 15.4 overs remaining. Anik was in touch with the ball in hand too. He took four wickets for 27 in eight overs. Nayeem Hasan gave only 11 runs for his three wickets in nine overs.

Bangladesh U19 were victorious by 145 runs. The second Youth ODI will be on September 30.
