Dubai hosted it’s second day-night Test and the sixth overall. Last year West Indies took on Pakistan in a pink ball clash and lost by 56 runs. Sri Lanka became the seventh team to play a D/N Test. India, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are yet to play one.
After a thrilling 21-run victory in Abu Dhabi Test, Sri Lanka elected to bat first in Dubai. Lankan openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva put on 63 runs. Kaushal left scoring 27 off 71.
Sadeera Samarawickrama made 35-ball 38 hitting five fours and a six in his debut innings. He was involved in a 68-run stand with Karunaratne. Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis (1) soon after Samarawickrama’s dismissal.
Karunaratne went on to score his 7th Test ton and his third this year in 197 balls. He has scored 870 runs in 10* Tests this year as he is in a race with 2017’s second leading run-scorer Hashim Amla, who has scored 899*.
Karunaratne ended the day with unbeaten 133 runs from 281 deliveries including 15 fours and a six. His partner, the skipper Dinesh Chandimal anchored the innings and scored 49* off 153 balls with five fours. These two have put an unbroken 118 runs partnership.
Sri Lanka finished the day with 254 runs for three wickets in 90 overs. Yasir Shah took two wickets for 90 runs. Mohammad Amir, who took one wicket, injured himself during the first day’s play.
