Mahmudullah, Mominul move up in rankings despite loss

Bangladesh were not good enough in any of the departments in the first test against South Africa but despite of all the failures there was something positive to take back from the test first for two batsman.

Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah Riyad who were in and out in the test team in the recent past has both scored fifty in the first innings and their performance has helped them to move up in the ICC Test rankings.

Mominul has gained one slot to reach 37th rank among batsmen while Mahmudullah has moved up two places to take 52nd position. Mominul’s 77 from 150 balls and Mahmudullah’s 66 from 124 balls in the first innings helped Bangladesh to avoid the follow on in the first test.

While for South Africa, after their dominating performance Hashim Amla & Dean Elgar has moved up the rankings. Amla scored 137 in the first innings and that has helped him move one place to 7th position. 

Elgar who was just one short from double hundred has moved up four places to 12th position in the latest rankings.

The number one test batsman in the world still remains Australian’s Steven Smith followed by Joe Root and Kane Williamson who are at 2nd & 3rd place respectively. 1 of 1
