Morkel injured, unlikely to bowl again

South Africa seamer Morne Morkel has sustained a left side strain during the second session in the fourth day of first Test against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom. It is unlikely that he will bowl anymore in the day. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ ইনজুরিতে মরকেল, ৫ম দিনে পারবেন না বল করতে!]

Morkel took two wickets in the first over in Bangladesh’s run-chase, dismissing Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque for ducks. He bowled Mushfiqur Rahim by a magical delivery but it was denied because of the front-foot no ball.

Morkel could bowl only 5.2 overs before tea and gave only 19 runs for his two wickets. He felt pain in his left side after he bowled the second ball of the sixth over. He decided to go off without completing the over.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) have confirmed on Twitter that the tall fast bowler will be taken for scans on Monday morning.

“He (Morkel) has sustained a left side strain & will be taken for further scans tomorrow morning to determine the extent of injury,” CSA wrote.

In another tweet, CSA informed that Morkel is unlikely to bowl again if the play resumes after rain interruption at Senwes Park.

“If play resumes, it is unlikely that Morne Morkel will bowl again.”

If Morkel is ruled out the game and the series, the Proteas will feel his absence in the long home season.
