Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced Paterson’s name after the hosts pulled off a massive 333-run win against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom. Morkel sustained a left side strain in the fourth day and didn’t bowl anymore in the Test. Scan reports confirmed his injury on Monday.
Paterson had earlier played four T20 Internationals for the Proteas. He might be making his Test debut this time. The 28-year-old has taken 285 wickets in 85 first-class matches at 23.24 with ten five-wicket hauls.
South Africa are 1-0 ahead in the two-match series after a thumping victory in Potchefstroom. The second Test will begin on October 6 at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein.
