Defending champion Dhaka Dynamites have moved to the top spot once again sealing a comprehensive win of 7 wickets against Chittagong Vikings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong in the first match on Monday.
Evin Lewis formed the foundation while Cameron Delport wrapped up the winning innings for the Dynamites; Dhaka reached the victory target with 7 balls to spare. They have lost 3 wickets in the process.
Dhaka did not start the innings nicely; Taskin Ahmed opened the bowling for Chittagong Vikings and in his third delivery of the first over, he managed to get dangerous Shahid Afidi back in the pavilion.
But it was all the home team bowlers could deliver in this particular occasion. Evin Lewis and Joe Denly were undeterred for 118 runs in the second wicket partnership. Lewis exhibited the most destructive form with the bat in this season’s BPL.
He reached the half century and before losing his wicket scoring 75 runs, Lewis hammered 9 sixes and 3 boundaries. The left handed Trinidadian became the catalyst of success for Dhaka Dynamites this year.
With the help of 4 fours and a six, Joe Denly scored 44 and he was the last batsmen Chittagong Vikings’ bowlers got rid of.
Dhaka Dynamites’ icon, world number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and South African lefty Cameron Delport cruised the team towards the victory target. Scoring 22 and 43 respectively, both of them were unbeaten.
The home team Chittagong Vikings have literally been thrown out of the competition after this lose. In 9 matches they played, the Vikings registered just 2 wins on contrary to lose 5 matches.
In the afternoon, the local franchise of Chittagong batted well after decided to do so on winning the toss. The 187 runs target could be discursive for any batting line up but the defending champions went through the target successfully.
Wicket keeper batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy exhibited a wonderful show with the bat. 47 balls he needed to score the highest 73 runs in the innings for Chittagong Vikings smashing 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Earlier opening batsman Luke Ronchi batted well on his way to 59 off 44 with the help of 4 fours and equal number of sixes after other opener Soumya Sarkar was clean bowled by Narine in the third over.
