Mahmudullah reluctant to take SL lightly

Sri Lanka are going through a tough period since the retirements of legends like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. The Lankans have recently lost series in all formats in India.

Bangladesh will be playing the tri-series (including Zimbabwe) and, Tests and T20Is against Sri Lanka at home. But Mahmudullah is not taking them lightly. Talking to reporters on Thursday, he emphasized on playing good cricket.

“It’s a great luxury of playing in home conditions. If you notice, every team performs well in home conditions in world cricket. We are also growing up as a good team at home. More than all opponents know about it.

“But we have to play good cricket because Sri Lanka are a very good side. So it’s important for us to play good cricket,” he said.

The re-appointed Tigers Test vice-captain is seeing new year 2018 as a new challenge.

“New year is a new challenge. We all have started our practice sessions. Every individual is doing their job at their own. Those of who are in the coaching stuff are also telling how important the series is to us. We need a good start and we are trying for that. Everything will be clear once the game starts.”

Chandika Hathurusingha, who recently resigned as Bangladesh coach, will be against them with the Sri Lankan side this time. But according to Mahmudullah, this is not worrying the Tigers.

“To be honest, I don’t think we will face obstacles. We are not worrying about this matter anyway. Results may come in favour of us if we play according to plans on the field. Insha Allah will play the same brand of cricket which we have been playing in last few years,” he explained.
