2018: Top 10 wicket-takers in international cricket
As the calendar year 2018 passed by, we have made a list of top-ten wicket-takers list in international cricket in 2018.
The top-ten list includes two Indians and English each, one each from South Africa, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Seven of the ten bowlers are spinners. Only India, South Africa and New Zealand had pacers in the top-ten.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah (78) and Kuldeep Yadav (76), South African Kagiso Rabada (77) and Adil Rashid (76) of England had an intense competition for the top-spot.
Bumrah bagged 78 wickets from 30 matches including three five-wicket hauls, all the five-fors coming in Tests. He recently scalped career-best 6/33 against Australia in the fourth Test at MCG. 48 of his wickets came in Tests while 22 in ODIs.
Rabada grabbed 77 wickets from 26 matches. He took 11/150 (Test) in a match against Australia in Port Elizabeth. Wrist-spinners Kuldeep, Adil Rashid and Afghanistan’s Rashid are among top five list. Rashid took 70 wickets from 28 matches for Afghanistan. He picked up two wickets for ICC World XI against Windies at Lord’s.
Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz is placed ninth on the list with 61 scalps from 33 games including four five-wicket hauls. 41 of the 61 wickets were in eight Tests and 18 from 15 ODIs. He took career-best 7/58 (Test) against Windies in Dhaka. In total, he took 12/117 in that game.
