All-round Australia have sealed a 19-run win by D/L method in the final of the Trans-Tasman tri-series at Eden Park, Auckland.
Guptill made 21 off 20 while Munro slammed 14-ball 29 with 3 fours and 2 sixes. New Zealand middle-order collapsed then on. Ashton Agar kept them under pressure in his spell.
Skipper Kane Williamson, Mark Chapman, Colin de Grandhomme – all failed to click. Experienced Ross Taylor and tail-ender Ish Sodhi made sure New Zealand put a competitive total on board. Sodhi departed scoring 13.
Taylor remained unbeaten on 43 runs from 38 deliveries hitting 2 fours and a six. The Blackcaps posted 150/9 in 20 overs. Agar was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 wickets for 27. Andrew Tye and Kane Richardson took two wickets each.
Australia openers David Warner and D’Arcy Short started briskly before rain delayed the game for a while. They put on 72 runs. Short registered his second T20I fifty but departed soon to part-timer Munro scoring 50 off 30 with 6 fours and 3 sixes.
Captain Warner was bowled for 25 by Sodhi soon. Agar didn’t make any difference as he was promoted up to no.3 position. Glenn Maxwell (20*) and Aaron Finch (18*( lifted the Aussies again before another rain break.
Play didn’t resume anymore and Australia were 121/3 14.4 overs, staying 19 runs ahead of the D/L par score which meant Australia winning the tri-series without losing any games.
