Bangladesh have handed maiden T20I caps to four newcomers in the first of the two T20Is against Sri Lanka at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. The hosts are batting first.

Zakir Hasan, Nazmul Islam, Ariful Haque, Afif Hossain are making debuts for Bangladesh. Nazmul was called into the side in place of injured captain Shakib Al Hasan two days ahead of the match.

Mahmudullah Riyad was named captain for the T20Is. He is the sixth T20I skipper for Bangladesh after he became the 10th man to lead Tigers in Tests.

Both sides are hit by injuries. Sri Lanka will miss the services of Kusal Perera and Asela Gunaratne. Bangladesh’s senior members Tamim Iqbal (bicep) and Mushfiqur Rahim (wrist) injuries but Mushfiqur is fit to play while Tamim isn’t.

Sri Lanka have one debutant, Shehan Madushanka. Kusal Mendis and Jeevan Mendis have returned into Sri Lanka’s T20 line-up.

Bangladesh have faced Sri Lanka seven times in T20 Internationals. They have defeated the Lankans in 2016 Asia Cup in Dhaka and in the second T20I of two-match series in Colombo last year.
