Kings XI Punjab registered a dominating 9-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in a rain affected match on Saturday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Having been asked to bat first, the home side lost their opener Sunil Narine in the second over of the match. But another opener Chris Lynn and one-down batsman Robin Uthappa tackled the situation as they added 72 runs in the first wicket stand before Uthappa fell for 34. He hit five fours and a maximum in his 23-ball short but helpful innings.
On the other hand, Chris Lynn got to his first half-century of this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although Lynn was slow at the beginning of his innings with Ankit Rajpoot bowling close to his body, it wasn’t till Rajpoot came back for the third that Lynn really got into the swing of things. Lynn smashed four sixes and six fours in his 41-ball 74 runs innings.
In reply, Punjab had a superb start with both openers Chris Gayle & Lokesh Rahul smashing fifties each. They were 96/0 in 8.2 overs when rain arrived to stop the play. By the time play resumed, KXIP needed just 29 more for victory – which they polished off without breaking a sweat.
KKR 191/7 in 20 overs (Chris Lynn 74, Dinesh Karthik 43; Andrew Tye 2-30)
KXIP 126/1 in 11.1 overs (Chris Gayle 62*, KL Rahul 60)
Player of the Match: Lokesh Rahul
Result: Kings XI Punjab won by 9 wkts (DLS method)
