Shakib starts off new journey in IPL

Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is going to have a new experience in the just started season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shakib who played his all six seasons of the tournament for Kolkata Knight Riders, will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the cash-rich Indian Premier League’s eleventh edition.

Before this year’s IPL, Shakib had been an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2011, though he was unable to participate in 2013’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR won two titles in this period of time and Shakib played a key role with his all-round performance.

But the 31-year old all-rounder did not have a great season in 2017 as he was featured in a single match in last year’s IPL. As a result the franchise lost interest in him and released him ahead of the auction for IPL 2018.

Shakib who was up for grab during the second round of the bidding with a base price of RS one crore, had been picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad after a clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore as they also tried to rope the number one ranked all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad team mentor VVS Laxmann, bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan and head coach Tom Moody expressed their relief after having the number number 1 all-rounder in their team.

As Shakib will now play for a new team, he will have different responsibility as compared to that he had in the past seasons of the tournament. Since there were many options for Kolkata in Shakib’s position, he was deprived of proper chances.

But it is expected that Shakib will now have better opportunity to be considered for best XI in Sunrisers Hyderabad unlike KKR. Even the team management have already announced that Shakib will be considered for batting in the middle-order.Shakib flies to Australia for better treatment

Apart from batting, the premier Bangladesh all-rounder is likely to be seen to play a major role with the ball as the Sunrisers bowling coach Muttiah Muralidharan, in his recent interview, has acknowledged Shakib’s capablity of doing good during the vital moments of match. So we might see him in the attack during power play or even death overs.

However, it is still a matter of worry whether Shakib would be able to deliver his best for Hyderabad because he has not been able to perform well since he suffered an injury to his little finger during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka.

He had to walk out of the field following an injury to his finger in that game. Although Shakib made a return to cricket during Nidahas Trophy, he was not at his best, owing to the injury and informed that he still remains a bit nervous regarding his injury.

To be noted, Shakib so far has played 43 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and grabbed 43 wickets with the ball at an average of 25.

On the other hand, batsman Shakib also maintained quite an impressive strike rate of over 130 in the tournament which definitely is worthy of attention.
