Mustafizur Rahman’s third season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his new team Mumbai Indians didn’t start off too well, but he came back strongly in the second game and made it quite a memorable one despite a last ball heartbreak for the defending champions yet again.
Mustafizur faced his former team Sunrisers Hyderabad where his national team-mate Shakib Al Hasan is playing for the first time after spending 7 years with Kolkata Knight Riders.
After Sunrisers Hyderabad put Mumbai Indian into bat first, the defending champions only managed to score a fighting total of 147 runs.
In reply, the men in orange started off very well and were in their way to chase down the target comfortably until some quick wickets changed complexion of the game. It all came down to Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman in the end and the duo almost took their team over the line.
The cutter master bowled 4 overs and only conceded 24 runs with an economy of 6.00. He picked up 3 wickets including two in an over in the 18th over of the game which almost took Mumbai Indians over the line.
Mustafizur’s first victim was the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad Kane Williamson who was given not out at first but the umpire was forced to change his decision after Rohit Sharma took the review. Siddhart Kaul was caught and bowled by Mustafizur which was a one-handed stunner and he also took the wicket of Sandeep Sharma in the last over.
The young pacer conceded only 1 run in the 18th over of the match but in the end it still wasn’t enough as Ben Cutting failed to defend 11 runs in the last over.
