36-year-old Devon Smith has been recalled into Windies Test squad after three years as Cricket Windies announces 13-member squad for the three-match home series against Sri Lanka in June.
Smith last played a Test match in 2015 England series. Selectors have picked him following his excellent form in the domestic circuit. He amassed 1095 runs including six hundreds at 84.23 for Windward Islands in the 2017-18 Regional Four-Day Tournament.
Wicket-keeper batsman Jahmar Hamilton is another inclusion to the squad. The 27-year-old was impressive for Windies A when he made 100, 29 and 79 in two first-class matches against England Lions at home this year.
Windies will host Sri Lanka for three Tests including the first-ever D/N Test in the Caribbean. CWI wanted to scrap one Test with a couple of one-dayers due to financial issues but ultimately the teams will play three Tests.
The series will begin on June 6 with the first Test in Port of Spain. The second Test will be from June 14 in Gros Islet. The third Test will be a pink-ball Day-Night face-off at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown from June 23.
Windies are currently ranked ninth in ICC Test rankings, three places lower than Sri Lanka. Windies are eight points behind Bangladesh, who are eighth. After the series ends, Bangladesh will be hosted by Windies in July.
The bilateral series will start with a two-match Test series followed by three ODIs and three T20Is (two T20Is in Florida).
