Mujeeb is the first international cricketer to be born in 21st century. He also became the youngest to play IPL at 17 years and 11 days. Currently playing for Kings XI Punjab, he has bagged 14 wickets in 11 matches at a decent economy rate of 6.99.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White is optimistic about the Afghan sensation. He told BBC, “Mujeeb has sort of burst onto the scene over the last six months.

“He’s been one of the finds of the IPL, so he comes in great form. I think he’s one of the leading bowlers in the IPL and he brings something completely different. Not a lot of guys will have faced him.”

Hampshire have also signed New Zealand’s Colin Munro, playing for Delhi Daredevils at the moment. He will be available for the first half of the tournament as he will leave for Caribbean Premier League.

“Colin has been very successful for New Zealand over the past couple of years, so they’re very exciting signings.

“Colin will play the first half of the Blast with us so he’ll be here in July, and then the idea at this stage is that Dale Steyn joins us for the second stage and the rest of the season,” said White.
