Mahmudullah expects a challenging series

Afghanistan are currently at no.8 in ICC T20I rankings while Bangladesh are ranked tenth. In the only T20I face-off between these two sides, Bangladesh won in the 2014 World T20 opener.

Speaking to media on Thursday, Mahmudullah shared his thoughts on the upcoming series. “We are very hopeful of winning the series. For that our batting department needs to do well. There will be a very good chance if our batsmen take the responsibility,” he said.

“Their bowling attack is very strong with variation. They have two world-class spinners who are headaches for us. We have seen Rashid Khan before. But we haven’t seen of Mujeeb that much. Still there’s a great chance for us.”

Rashid and Mujeeb have been performing for their franchises (SRH and KXIP) in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Rashid caused a few problems for Bangladesh when Afghanistan toured here in 2016. Mujeeb is yet a new face to all.

But Mahmudullah is not thinking too much of them. He believes Tiger batsmen have the capability of facing Afghan attack.

“The two teams have different spin attacks. Rashid and Mujeeb are spoken highly nowadays. Our batsmen have the capability of facing them. I hope it will be a competitive series and I’m looking to it in that way,” he added.

Bangladesh will face Afghanistan on June 3, 5 and 7 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Dehradun.
