Rajasthan Royals have kept their playoffs hopes alive after a dominant 30-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in match No.53 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. They have moved to fourth place.
RR made fast bowler Jofra Archer open with Rahul Tripathi. Archer-experiment didn’t work at all as he was sent back for four-ball duck. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane hung in with Tripathi. They pair added 99 runs for the second-wicket. Tripathi reached his fifty in 38 balls.
Umesh Yadav brought RCB back in the game with back-to-back wickets of Rahane and Sanju Samson. Rahane made a steady 33 while Samson got a golden duck. Heinrich Klaasen was given lbw on his second ball off Yadav but DRS saved him.
Klaasen made a handy 21-ball 32 including 3 fours and 1 sixes and Krishnappa Gowtham hitting 14 off 5 supported Tripathi, who top-scored with unbeaten 80 runs from 58 deliveries comprising 5 fours and 3 sixes. Rajasthan put 164/5 on board. Yadav picked 3/25.
Then Shreyas Gopal came in sent back Patel and Moeen Ali in one over. Patel scored 33 off 21 with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Gopal dismissed Mandeep Singh in the next over to put RCB in trouble.
Meanwhile de Villiers brought up his sixth half-century of this season in 31 balls. Colin de Grandhomme was required to fire but he too fell to a leg-spinner, Ish Sodhi. There was further trouble for RCB as the big fish de Villiers was stumped off Gopal. AB made 35-ball 53 hitting 7 boundaries.
RCB were bundled out for 134 runs in 19.2 overs. Gopal bowled a match-winning spell of 4/16. Ben Laughlin and Jaydev Unadkat took two wickets each.
