In the 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched a thrilling win against the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore where Shakib Al Hasan had a large contribution with both bat and the ball.
Virat Kohli elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Both the openers failed to give SRH a good start but it was the skipper Kane Willamson again who led from the front and came to the rescue.
Kane along with Shakib built an all important partnership which made the way for the Sunrisers to put up a fighting total. The skipper departed for a well-made 56 and after his departure, Shakib smacked some boundaries before departing for 35 runs from 32 balls. His innings includes 5 fours.
Sunrisers in the end scored 146 runs in their 20 overs which looked a total to fight for considering the bowling attack the orange army has.
In reply, the brave SRH captain gave Shakib to bowl despite left hander Parthiv Patel was on the crease but the ploy worked as the opener was trapped lbw in the last ball of Shakib’s first over. The number all-rounder also took the most crucial wicket of skipper Virat Kohli courtesy of a stunning catch by Yusuf Pathan.
In Shakib’s 4 overs, he conceded 36 runs with an economy of 9 and he finished yet again with an all-round performance. Despite of the early quick wickets, RCB were still well in the game to chase it down after the arrival of Collin de Grandhomme.
The Kiwi batsman played a vital cameo in the end but it still wasn’t enough as Bhuvneshwar Kumar successfully defended 12 runs in the last over and it sealed yet another thrilling win for the table toppers.
