#3 Knocking out Pakistan from the 2007 World Cup
9th Match, Group D, ICC World Cup at Kingston, Mar 17, 2007
PAK 132/10 (45.4) | IRE 133/7 (41.4/47, target 128)
Result: Ireland won by 3 wickets
2007 World Cup was a disaster for both the Asian powerhouses in India and Pakistan. While India’s campaign was derailed by a loss to Bangladesh, for Pakistan, it was Ireland who turned out to be the ones to spoil the party.
Under the captaincy of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan played their worst cricket in the Caribbean when they lost to Ireland despite having power batting line-up. Batting first, Pakistan team bundled out for just 132 runs. Not a single batsman reached 30 during the game against Ireland.
Ireland needed to score 128 runs in 47 overs as per D/L method and they comfortably chased it. While chasing the easy total, Ireland kept losing wickets at regular interval and they were in a critical situation with the score of 113 for 7. However, Kevin O’Brien and Trent Johnson took them to the target and registered their first win against an established side.
