India were sent in to bat first by the hosts Ireland. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a commanding start. They scored 59 runs in the powerplay. Both batsmen reached fifties as they put on a century stand.

Dhawan and Rohit added 160 runs in 16 overs, the second-highest partnership for India in T20Is. Dhawan slammed 74 runs from 45 deliveries including 5 fours and sixes each. Rohit was on brink of becoming only the second man to score three T20I tons. But he was bowled by Peter Chase in the last over. The right-hander made 61-ball 97 with 8 fours and 5 sixes.

Chase’s three wickets in the last over restricted India from scoring any bigger runs. He took four for 35 but India posted 208/5 on board. Skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck for the second time in T20Is.

Ireland lost Paul Striling in reply. Opening batsman James Shannon was the lone warrior in Irish’s defeat. He scored his maiden half-century, 35-ball 60 hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes.

The rest of the line-up failed as Indian wristspinning duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal shared seven wickets among them. Kuldeep was Player of the Match for his career-best 4/21. Chahal was expensive despite three wickets.

India handed Ireland their second-biggest defeat in this format. The second and final T20I will be on Thursday at the same venue.
