Former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra has named his best XI of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) in which Hardik Pandya was named as skipper.
The 2022 IPL found its deserved victor in the Gujarat Titans, who comfortably defeated the Rajasthan Royals in a one-sided final in their own backyard at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29. The team was superbly led up front by star all-rounder Hardik Pandya as they topped the league and then recorded convincing victories in the knockout rounds to lift the trophy.
Recently, Aakash Chopra came forward and picked his IPL 2022 team of the tournament. The former Test opener named Hardik as captain. Chopra reasoned the same, going on to say that the Baroda cricketer not only led well but also demonstrated his ability with his all-around ability through his strong middle order performances and bowling angle in the final.

The cricketer-turned-expert also named Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik as his captain as well as player of the tournament. He stated:

“Together with him I kept KL Rahul. I thought about Quinton de Kock and Shubman Gill, but about KL Rahul - more than 600 runs over two centuries. Once again eat, sleep and get 600 runs in the IPL. The form is temporary, KL Rahul is permanent.
“I had polled for #3 – Deepak Hooda or Rahul Tripathi. I chose Rahul Tripathi, about 80% also voted for Rahul Tripathi. After that, my player of the tournament name is Hardik Pandya - he's captain, bowler and batter. He is also the captain of this team.”
Punjab Kings batter Liam Livingstone, Gujarat Titans batter David Miller and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell were the next three players on Chopra's team of the tournament. He explained:
“In fifth place I have Liam Livingstone. He's a six shot machine and has done amazingly well this year. In 6th place you had to think about who to keep – DK (Dinesh Karthik) could have been there but I actually went with David Miller because he had an unforgettable season.”
Meanwhile, the four bowlers in his best XI of the season were Rajasthan Royals leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan, Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami and Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh. He stated:
“In my four bowlers there is a weirdo, his name is Yuzi Chahal. He is the owner of the Purple Cap. Rashid Khan and Wanindu Hasaranga could have been there too, but my four overseas slots are up.
“Avesh Khan is by my side. I thought of Mohsin Khan, Umran Malik and Prasidh Krishna but I still go with Avesh Khan - less bad days. After that I went with Mohammed Shami, he was amazing. Last but not least at number 11 is Arshdeep Singh. In my opinion, he was once again the standout bowler.”
