AB de Villiers in full contention to play T20I World Cup this year
South Africa coach Mark Boucher confirms that AB de Villiers will be considered for upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia later this year if he makes himself available for the national team.
“He’s a conversation in the media and in the general people however he is no conversation for me,” Boucher was cited as saying by ESPNCricinfo after the last T20I against England. “I have had talks with him and we will most likely realize quite soon what will occur with him. Like I said from the very first moment when I took over [as coach], if we are setting off to a World Cup, I might want to have our best players there.
“If AB is in good form and he is chomping at the bit to go, and he makes himself accessible for the time we have requested that he be accessible; if he is the most ideally equipped man for the job, at that point he should go. It’s not about egos or anything like that, it’s tied in with sending your best team to the World Cup to attempt to win that challenge.”
De Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket in May 2018. But he’s continuing his destructive form in different franchise T20 leagues.
