De Villiers has quite a big fan base all around the world and in Bangladesh, it is no different. There was a curiosity for everyone what was the conversation between him and Shakib after the all-rounder revealed that De Villiers played a big role in influencing him to bat up the order in the World Cup.

The former Protea batsman finally revealed the conversation during an interview on Cricfrenzy and also said he is happy for the all-rounder for being able to grab the opportunity well.

“I’ve always seen him as one of the best players around the world and as a batsman specifically. I’ve met a lot of all-rounders where they get labelled as an all-rounder and they don’t bat at top 4. That’s just an old school way of thinking.”

“Shakib has always been a better than just an all-rounder batsman. I told him that the best batters in the world bat at top 4 and if you wanna be one of the best batsman in the world, then that’s your attention should be and put yourself under pressure. Then you can only step up the next level of your batting,” he told Cricfrenzy.

De Villiers also insisted that he was not surprised after seeing how Shakib performed in the World Cup, batting at number three. He also labelled him as a great fighter and expressed his happiness for the all-rounder.

“I was not surprised at all when we saw the best of Shakib at no.3. He is that kind of a fighter. He is calm under pressure. I’m very glad that he got the opportunity,” he concluded.
