We've come a long way at the ICC U-19 World Cup and we finally have our top two teams in the table. India U-19 will face England U-19 in the final after defeating Australia U-19 and Afghanistan U-19 in their respective matches.
Before the teams and all of us prepare for the grand finals, we have one more important game to look forward to.
Australia U-19 meets Afghanistan U-19 in third place playoff match. Both sides have been doing pretty well up to the point of losing their respective semi-finals and are expected to look after themselves strongly in this upcoming game.
The match between the two teams will take place on February 4, 2022 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
AFG U-19 vs AUS U-19 prediction
Afghanistan U-19 meets Australia U-19 in third place playoff. The match will be played at Coolidge Cricket Ground and will start at 6:30pm IST.
Afghanistan was mighty impressive in this tournament. You may not have made the top 4, but you can hold your head high. They were very competitive in every game, which is a great sign for them for the future.
Australia U-19 also played good cricket. However, they weren't good enough to beat India in the semifinals as they lost the game by 96 runs. The team chased 291 to victory and were eliminated for 194.
It hasn't been long since Afghanistan made it onto the international cricket scene but they've done tremendously well within the limited opportunities they've had. In this competition, their U-19 team has even excelled in reaching the semi-finals and that could go a long way towards the development of cricket in their country.
Afghanistan finished second in their group, just behind Pakistan U-19, but managed well in the quarter-final match to meet with England U-19 in the semifinals. They almost beat the English side before they came under pressure in the final moments of the game.
Australia U-19 did a great job until they met India U-19 in the semifinals. They were undefeated in the tournament through to the final four and even looking pretty good for a title win. While a win here would give them third place in the tournament, they know they missed a golden opportunity in the previous game.
Australia, who first played India U-19 bowling, started quite well as they stalled on goal tally before the Indians finally stole it from them in the final twenty overs. They never looked under control when batting and eventually lost the match by a hefty margin. Despite this loss, the Aussies shouldn't be too disappointed given how they've played in the tournament before.
AFG vs. AUS U19 Match Pitch Report
The surface is not a very high scoring wicket as its slow nature does not allow batsmen to play freely. It's a type of wicket that a batsman doesn't feel comfortable with at any given moment.
